Okay so I posted that link about Google earlier, but I haven’t let it go.
Because I went on Youtube earlier and saw that damn “We’re changing our privacy policy. This stuff matters” malarkey. My biggest problem with this whole read-our-new-privacy-policy-because-it-matters is other than being educated about the changes, it doesn’t matter.
I can’t make a dissent. I can’t opt out of the privacy changes. I can’t say no Google, I want the right to be forgotten, because my privacy matters over your ridiculous privacy policy changes. I want to be sure that if some mad scientist-hacker got on your servers that my shit would be safe and secure. And it won’t.
Maybe I’m just mad that the EU wants to look over these privacy changes, but America just sort of shrugged and clicked “dismiss.”
We all banded together for SOPA and ACTA. People I’m sure had no fucking clue about how Internet law works were protesting, but every day we make these daily concessions to Internet corporations. We check the “Read Terms Agreement” box without reading and it makes a funny South Park episode. And we keep letting Apple and Google get away with access to six months of our computer activity and everything we’ve ever said on their sites ever.
So if this means I have to switch back to Firefox for a browser and keep my gmail and google searches squeaky clean, then I’ll have to. But this is whole let-the-Internet-companies-make-money-however-they-can attitude is going to be detrimental to our generation in the future. No company should have this kind of power to pull up any and everything we’ve said on the Internet.
Maybe I need to boycott Google.
